Job Objective:
The DJS-001 project is developing a first in class bispecific antibody to target myeloid cell-driven inflammatory disease. Through our novel biological insights, into the key drivers of myeloid cell recruitment and activation, we are developing a first in class therapeutic molecule capable of successfully targeting myeloid cell-driven inflammatory pathologies. which has exciting and wide-ranging applications in inflammatory disease and beyond.
The successful applicant will be a practical person who is organised, pays attention to detail, and efficiently gets the job done. Previous experience in a range of techniques is preferred but is not essential as training will be provided. At DJS we want to foster innovative scientists performing cutting edge science and as such a successful applicant will have many scientific career development opportunities, as a scientist or in laboratory/operations management. Furthermore, a successful applicant will be exposure to all aspects of R&D and the broader business at both DJS and within the wide AbbVie organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bringing energy, enthusiasm and positivity to the company
- Maintenance of cell cultures
- Transient protein expression with mammalian cell lines
- Antibody purifications
- Performing critical laboratory experiments and analysing the data
- Molecular biology including (DNA preparation and purification, PCR, Cloning)
- Performing critical laboratory experiments and analysis to inform key decision making on DJS-001
- Work as a key member of the DJS-001 project team and contribute to strategic decision making
- Keeping up to date with developments in the literature in relation to all aspects of the DJS-001 program
- Day-to-day laboratory management as part of the team e.g. maintaining a safe and clean working laboratory environment, re-ordering laboratory consumables
- Establishing and maintaining quality sample archives
- Gathering, analysing and presenting data from a variety of sources to the wider team and organisation
- Critical and impartial review of self and peer generated laboratory data
- Maintenance of laboratory experimental records
Skills and Experience:
- A BSc of 2:1 level or higher with intercalated year in industrial/academic research and/or an MSc/MRes or higher degree with significant lab experience in a relevant discipline (such as Biology, Biochemistry, pathology, cell biology or Natural Sciences)
- Enthusiasm for and commitment to, drug development research and drug discovery
- Proven recent experience in (Mamalian cell culture, Molecular and biochemical techniques)
- Evidence of excellent organisational and interpersonal skis including
- Desirable skills (Running biological assays on primary cells and cell lines & good knowledge of statistics)
