Job description for Logistics and General Munitions Support Operative
We have an exciting opportunity for a Logistics and General Munitions (GM) Support Operative, based at Defence Munitions (DM) Kineton.
In this role, you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working towards tight timelines and critical ammunition outputs for DM. You’ll be working mainly outdoors and within a team on tasks ranging from conducting maintenance and repairs of ammunition, carrying out detailed checks on mechanical handling equipment, and loading vehicles at the depot.
We will provide you training in explosives and non-explosives stores accounting and various logistics systems. Working in different ammunition process buildings, this role is full of variety and will give you the opportunity to learn more about Defence Munitions, the intricacies of working with these items, and the different ways which we transport our goods around the world.
This role is 100% site based at DM Kineton on a full time, 37 hours a week basis. The usual hours are 8:00 – 16:00 Monday to Thursday, 8:00 – 15:30 on Friday, and voluntary overtime is offered as required by the business.
Above all, you will need to be accountable and diligent about safety processes and procedures to closely follow the guidance that means ammunition and explosives are handled in a safe, effective, and consistent way.
Responsibilities for Logistics and General Munitions Support Operative
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support General Munitions Processing in meeting production targets with due regard to safety, time, cost and quality. Conduct assembly and disassembly, examination, maintenance, repair and modification, including packing, repacking, on-receipt and pre-issue activities.
- Adopt a multi-skilled philosophy and approach in supporting wider depot operations and activities in accordance with local and departmental policy and procedures. Typically this may include activities such as General Munitions processing and Logistics/warehousing duties including the operation of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE), supporting the assembly/disassembly of unit load specifications (ULS), environmental monitoring, performing the duties of an Dangerous Goods Consignor and/or Dangerous Goods Authorised Representative.
- Ensure that munitions and explosives are handled in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with Safe Systems of Work (Approval To Process) including but not limited to authorised procedures, risk assessments, manual handling & Care of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Ensure that all issues and receipts of stores are thoroughly checked, paperwork is correctly completed and where applicable, building NEQ boards updated accordingly
- Ensure all palletised loads are prepared and documented in accordance with the relevant Unit Load Specification
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- Experience in working with stock and/or in a warehouse environment
It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following desirable criteria:
- Experience in Mechanical Handling
- Experience in Handling Ammunition
