The A Side: A Day in The Life
EMI North is the first major British record label physically located outside of London. Born out of a desire to boost artists and talented music industry professionals based outside of our capital city; EMI North is committed to investing in an already thriving music scene, finding new talent and audiences, and building their business.
The label is dedicated to supporting the very best local talent in the North of the UK and will provide opportunities to work in the UK music industry. We are planting the flag firmly in the ground without prejudice, and with clear intent and values. This grassroots label will have the ability to attract, nurture and establish northern artists.
Bringing a passion for local music, and a true northern soul, the Label Manager is responsible for assisting the label president in launching and executing the label vision, including hiring key staff for the EMI North team.
The Label Manager will be a driving force in the labels success in becoming a culturally significant presence in the region.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Be Organised
Create and implement label and release strategies
Manage all administrative and ad hoc task that come with office, operations and label set up
Be a ‘fixer’, with a ‘can do’ attitude and a knack for general problem solving across all aspects of label life
Oversee the digital and physical release schedule process and ensure that all aspects are properly managed and scheduled in a timely manner
Manage complex promotional planning for artist and label projects
Be Analytical
Responsible for stock forecasting, internal sales reporting, chart reports, ensuring chart eligibility of EMI North’s Music releases
Monitor key projects and provide regular detailed written reports on priority
Identify artists and tracks in the internal system that merit marketing and promotional focus and closely monitor trends and development using all available tools and market data
Be Collaborative
Provide leadership, advice, and support to internal and external label partners in respect of their release schedule in the areas of sales, distribution, marketing strategy and promotional plans
Attend planning and scheduling meetings
Work with labels and EMI North’s partners to compile, approve and maintain budgets for actively worked repertoire
Forge strong working relationships with Labels, Artists, Artist Management and Marketing colleagues
Ensure timely delivery of assets from external partners, and internal delivery into supply chain, such that marketing timelines are met – pre orders, instant grats etc go live on time and in correct markets
Be Knowledgeable
Understanding of different deal types and what that means for how individual projects are worked
Provide exceptional knowledge of the music industry to support advice given
Market and promote assigned artists and labels on a local and global level
Devise and direct promotional strategy for artists to ensure maximised sales in line with marketing objectives
To work on own initiative to ensure all opportunities are maximised – identify artists and tracks in the internal system that merit marketing and promotional focus and closely monitor trends and development using all available tools and market data
Person Specification
Necessary
A commitment to empowering regional talent
Experience in a label, product, or campaign management role ideally within a record label environment
A solid network and embedded in the local music scene
A track record of liaising effectively with stakeholders and label partners including Managers, Labels and Artists
Commitment to working, influencing, and persuading at all levels of an organisation (upwards and downwards) and building lasting relationships
An understanding of key media and DSP partners and a willingness to learn about, and be objective of, regional, national, global opportunities
The ability to learn quickly and adapt to the changing demands
Flexible in approach, and able to prioritise own workload and self-motivated; hard working and enthusiastic
Ability to quickly learn internal systems and IT infrastructure and to use data objectively
Team player with a flexible approach, willing to defer when appropriate
