Job Description

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team to investigate the impact of parental obesity on the structure and function of their adult children’s and grandchildren’s brains. The position is funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK and is available for 1 year under the supervision of Dr. Cheryl Hawkes and Dr. Neil Dawson in the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences at Lancaster University, UK.

Lancaster University has a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching and research. The Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, within the Faculty of Health and Medicine, is a rapidly growing, innovative and vibrant Division whose research effort is directed towards understanding basic cellular and physiological mechanisms that underpin disease states. Research areas include neurodegeneration, mental health, ageing, infectious diseases, immunology and cancer biology.

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher able to carry out cutting edge statistical analyses of complex biological datasets obtained from 3 generations of human participants in the Framingham Heart study. You must hold or be close to completion/submission of a PhD in Biostatistics or a related discipline and have experience carrying out statistical analysis of large, complex biological datasets. Excellent communication skills and the capacity to work well in a team, including with external collaborators, is also essential. Candidates should also demonstrate evidence of being able to effectively troubleshoot research problems and work independently.

The Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences is a friendly research environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and which actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 in recognition of its good employment practices undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.

Informal enquiries are welcomed. Please contact Dr Cheryl Hawkes ([email protected])

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups and are happy to consider flexible working requests.
