Job Description

We are currently seeking to recruit a permanent Medical Receptionist to provide a comprehensive reception service.

The salary is £19,263.21 per annum.

Annual leave of 33 days per year.

NHS Pension.

Hours of work will be 37.5 per week between 8.00am 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

The post holders will be based primarily at our Alliance Medical Group practice based at South Hylton but will be required to work flexibly across all SGPA practices as required.

As well as greeting patients and carrying out general reception duties you will also be expected to process prescriptions and fully utilise EMISWeb and other IT systems.

Applicants must have experience of working in a NHS setting and have a working knowledge of medical reception duties.

Job Description

Job Title: Medical Receptionist

Base: SGPA South Hylton Surgery

Purpose of the post: to provide a confidential and comprehensive reception service to GPs and other members of the Practice team

Accountable to: Assistant Head of General Practice

Responsible to: Head of General Practice

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary £19,263.21 per annum

Job summary

To provide a comprehensive reception service to achieve an efficient and effective service in providing the best possible care to patients.

Receptionists will:

Duties and Responsibilities in line with Practice policies and procedures:

In addition to the above, the post holder will show respect and courtesy to patients and colleagues, maintain confidentiality of patient and other Practice information at all times. Working occasional extra hours may be required.

The job description is not exhaustive and may be adjusted periodically after review and consultation. You will be expected to carry out reasonable duties which may be requested from time to time.

Working relationships

All members of staff may be asked to attend periodic Staff Meetings, which may be held outside their normal working hours. They may also be required to work extra hours covering for holidays and sickness. This may include Saturday mornings and possibly weekend work in future on a rota basis.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Medical Receptionist

Qualifications

Intellectually robust with a minimum of five GCSE’s or equivalent

Experience

Experience of working in a NHS setting

Working knowledge of medical reception duties

Experience of working with patients/public

Knowledge of System One

Knowledge/Skills

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range people

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times

Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense

Able to work with minimal supervision following set procedures

Computer literacy

Good time management skills, able to prioritise and organise workload for best effect

Ability to work to tight deadlines in a busy environment

Attention to detail
