Job Description:
The role of a Test House Manager is responsible for ensuring departmental objectives are effectively delivered on time, and technical lead of the test support team within the Test & Electronics department. You will be responsible for the upkeep and development for all test facilities; working closely with Engineering, Build & Test departments during installation, maintenance, calibration and all test facility upgrade activities. Once established, this role will further develop to encompass management of all test house staff and activities.
The Role:
As well as being a technical lead, duties will include:
- Manage, track, and assign the day-to-day tasks for technicians & engineering staff.
- Ensure job lists, timesheets, absence requests and reporting are managed effectively.
- Manage timekeeping and overtime requirements.
- Manage maintenance, calibration and continuous upgrade of existing facilities and equipment.
- Ensure correct tooling & jigs are available to meet needs.
- Assessing and securing sub-contractor services when appropriate.
- Develop and improve departmental resources and procedures.
- Identify and implement (where appropriate) process time reductions.
- Co-ordinating with and supporting other teams within Build, Test and Electronics to level workload and achieve company targets.
- Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping.
- Ensure conformity to standards, production techniques and conformance to Cosworth’s Quality Management and fault reporting system.
- Oversee training validation of all new starters.
- Promote and encourage the continuous expansion of skill sets through on the job training.
- Promote a culture of process improvement across the team.
- Consideration of health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
- Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
Candidate Profile:
- Must have team lead/management experience.
- Be presented in a professional demeanour with good interpersonal skills and high levels of integrity.
- Be able to apply a structured logical approach to all work.
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Confident clear communication, both verbal and written.
- The ability to balance working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- PC Literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCad and Unigraphics (or similar)
- Previous experience working in a test environment in an engineering support role is essential including:
- Specification, design, use and traceable calibration of high-end data acquisition, control and instrumentation systems
- High speed drive lines and powertrains including specification of motors and VSDs.
- Emissions equipment.
- Closed loop PID control, CAS, coolant, hydraulic, pneumatic systems etc.
- Selection, installation, calibration and operation of pressure, temperature, torque, flow, humidity transducers.
- Good understanding of internal combustion engines and engine test methodology.
- Previous experience in the design of mechanical systems, tooling, rigs, jigs and associated fixtures.
