The Covid Medicines unit (CMDU) was set up in December 2021 and delivers treatments to non-hospitalised patients deemed to be of the highest risk. We offer passionate and motivated nurses a platform to develop their skills and knowledge in the management of COVID 19 patients with an opportunity to also access other specialist areas.

The role will include triaging patients, cannulation, venepuncture and IV treatment and all applicants must be NMC Registered as well as being IV (intravenous) and Cannulation competent. Be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team and act as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team whilst ensuring and maintaining excellent clinical standards. Support to the other specialities such as HIV, Allergy and Immunology if there are lower numbers.

Working arrangements will be to cover weekday clinics, Monday-Friday 08:30 till 16:30 (inc 30 min break).

As the Covid Medicines unit is an additional service to support COVID measures the long term plan is unknown, in the event that the unit closes before the end of the 12 month fixed term contract then the staff members will be redeployed into another service area in order to continue to honour the 12 month contract.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The role will involve triaging patients, preparing and administering intravenous therapies. You will undertake clinical skills such as venepuncture and cannulation. It is essential that you are IV and cannulation competent to be considered for this role. You must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team and act as a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team whilst ensuring and maintaining excellent clinical standards.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register
Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Experience

Essential

Previous or recent experience of working in an acute secondary NHS care setting, can include student placements within the last 12 months
Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/competence
Experience of working on your own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision
Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for student supervision and assessment

Additional Criteria

Essential

Demonstrate achievement of numeracy and literacy skills, which include drug administration calculations
Ability to read/write and speak, receive and understand instructions in English
Good IT skills ability to record information electronically
Competent in a range of clinical skills and willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required
Professional appearance
Display genuine interest in the post applied for and can articulate this when questioned
Positive and enthusiastic attitude
Ability to communicate articulately with others
Caring and approachable
Punctual and reliable
Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights/weekends/unsocial hours where required
