Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.
Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.
Role Description:
The Application Lead Architect role provides technical leadership on the Application Architecture domains of API, Microservices, Integration, EDA, Mobile and Serverless.
The key elements of the role are:
- Leading an Application Architecture Working Group (composed of champions from each Line of Business or Global Function) to define strategies, patterns, standards and reference architectures for one of the domains.
- Leading any vendor/technology shortlisting, evaluation and technical selection processes that might result from a strategic aim of plugging gaps in our Application Architecture domain strategies/reference architectures.
Responsibilities:
- Lead one of Application Architecture domain practices, which includes chairing a Working Group and defining strategies, patterns, standards and reference architectures for the domain.
- Socialise Application Architecture strategies, standards, patterns and reference architectures with the rest of the Bank.
- Maintain a strong understanding of industry and enterprise-wide application architecture and technology trends
- Deliver technical talks when requested by delivery teams, acting as the engineering liaison between the Application Architecture team and delivery teams across HSBC
- Help own the application architecture tools/accelerators from a technical perspective, driving their evolution leveraging the latest tooling, technologies and techniques, and ensuring alignment with HSBC and Application architecture standards
- Provide consultancy to teams that are designing and developing solutions
Essential Skillset/Experience:
- Expertise with designing, architecting and implementing modern distributed Enterprise applications.
- Experience in writing strategies, patterns, standards and reference architectures for Application Architecture domains.
- Experience as an architect and/or lead engineer role managing, building and delivering business solutions (e.g. in Payments, Digital banking, Cards etc.) with a substantial integration elements
- Ability to work well with diverse and geographically located teams, building consensus on the contents of reference architecture artefacts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and able to successfully articulate technology concepts to both business and technology audiences
- Must have experience with design, development & integration on cloud platforms (eg. GCP, AWS, Azure) in a continuous delivery environment
- Experience with database technology such as MySQL, Oracle, and MongoDB. Experience with Neo4J a plus.
- Implementation and development experience with integration technologies and architectures (for e.g., Service Orchestration, Service Choreography, Event Driven Architecture, Messaging middleware, etc.)
The role will be based in Sheffield but most of time working remotely.
