Alfred H Knight are looking to recruit the ICP Preparation Technician to support operations at our ICP laboratory in Prescot, Merseyside. The ICP Preparation Technician will be responsible for carrying out multiple analytical procedures associated with the preparation of sample solutions submitted to the ICP department prior to analysis. Performing this role in such a manner to ensure that a high degree of precision, accuracy, and efficient service is provided on the various types of samples/commodities submitted to the laboratory for analytical evaluation. It is possible that over time the role will progress towards operating the instrumentation (ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS) with full training provided, depending on the post holder’s observed competency.

Responsibilities:

In conjunction with the instrument operators, the organization and processing of the daily workload to meet the agreed work schedules and targets. To ensure that all processes are performed in accordance with documented methods and procedures.
- Ensuring all equipment that the post holder uses on a regular basis are kept clean and in good working order at all times. In cases where equipment is found to be working unsatisfactorily it is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the supervisor or deputy so that repair or maintenance can be arranged.
- Ensuring that the operational area and any equipment used within the department is kept clean at all times. In cases were equipment is found to be working unsatisfactorily, it is the post holders responsibility to inform the Supervisor/Departmental Manager so that repair or maintenance can be organized.
- Maintain record keeping in such a way that work is clearly auditable & traceable, within the guidelines of AHK’s 17025 accreditation.
- Undertaking other duties of an appropriate nature, in consultation with the UK Laboratory Manager, ICP Manager, ICP Operations Manager (and/or their deputies).
- Maintain a professional standard and appearance during office hours, while promoting the company and when on company business.
- Ensure the company’s Health & Safety policy is being applied within all laboratory areas under the post holder’s purview, informing the Laboratory Director of serious breaches or systematic failure of policy.

Required Skills, Competencies and Knowledge

- Able to demonstrate a high degree of manual dexterity and can regularly carry loads of up to 15Kg without issue.

- Able to communicate effectively in a range of different formats.
- Proven time management skills, quality driven and pro-active

- The ability to develop the skills and knowledge within the laboratory to create an environment where knowledge sharing is a priority.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy and to be numerate.
Required Work Experience
Experience in a laboratory environment. (Ideal but not essential)
Required Qualifications
A minimum GCSE equivalent education
