Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join the team at the RNOH Private Care Divison based in Stanmore, London. In return, we offer a competitive salary of up to £24,378 - £25,426 per annum, including HCAS.

The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is a world-renowned centre of excellence for the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. We are the largest orthopaedic hospital in the UK, and we are regarded as a leader in the field of orthopaedics, both in the UK and worldwide. Our small, but perfectly formed team, provides care and support for in-patient day cases and longer-term care within our department.

The Trust is currently looking for motivated, suitably qualified, professional individuals with excellent communication skills and experience of working within the health care sector. Experience of working with patients requiring fast-paced day admissions, short term surgical recovery and longer term surgical rehabilitation is desirable.

Our friendly supportive adult orthopaedic team operates as a private patient facility providing a dedicated 7-day service to in-patients through our established nursing and therapist team. Our service also offers support on an out-patient basis for pre-existent clients.

We are looking for a team player who can apply innovative solutions to challenging developments. Experience of working with younger people would be an advantage. Some evenings and weekend working will be required in order to support the team and meet trust expectations. Part-time applicants will be considered for this role.


Main duties:

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills within a tertiary in-patient orthopaedic setting. You will work alongside registered nurses with a measured level of accountability and responsibility for the nursing assessment and facilitated treatment of interesting and complex caseloads for patient’s pre and post operatively. Practice according to the NMC: The Code. Professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates. Duties includes but is not limited to the acute inpatient treatment of upper and lower limb joint reconstruction, including sarcoma limb salvage work and spinal surgery.

Under the direction and supervision of a trained nurse, you will be expected to carry out nursing procedures within the required competencies and to assist with the care and treatment of patients. Carrying out verbal reports to senior nursing staff regarding the patients planned care as necessary ensuring that patients are assisted to retain their dignity and individuality.


Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities:

You will need good communication skills, be a conscientious team player and demonstrate a flexible approach to working. You should be willing to learn new skills and adapt to an experiential learning environment.

In addition you will need strong reasoning ability to ensure that the delivery of our private in-patient orthopaedic service remains evidence based and of a high standard.

You will need to liaise closely with other In-patient clinical teams, our internal Private Care Unit therapy team and the other services which are supported by Clinical Specialists within the wider trust clinical and non-clinical departments.


Qualifications:

  • Evidence of good standard of general education
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent Health Care qualification (Desirable)

Experience:

  • Working within teams
  • Demonstrable experience of excellent patient / customer service.
  • Current evidence-based practice.
  • Experience of working as HCA (Desirable)

Skills:

  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Able to manage difficult situations.
  • Able to learn new skills.
  • Able to maintain clear and legible documentation
  • Able to care for a group of patients
  • Effective communication skills (written, non-verbal & verbal)
  • Commitment to complete Care qualification within 12 months (Desirable)
  • IT skills (Desirable)
