Patient Navigator (NHS GP Practice Receptionist)
St Paul’s Surgery is a NHS GP Practice in Winchester serving 22,300 patients. We have a glowing CQC, Patient and Staff reputation.
We are looking for a capable, enthusiastic and committed Patient Navigator (Receptionist) with excellent communication/ interpersonal skills to replace a retiring employee. We are offering 24 to 30 hours per week (applicants choice).
The role will include answering phones, navigating patients to the correct service/appointments, manning front desk, scanning, prescriptions and other administrative tasks requested by the GP’s.
Experience of working in the NHS would be an advantage but is not essential.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Patient Navigator (Receptionist)
MAIN PURPOSE OF POST: To provide a point of contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors and other practice staff. To ensure that accurate and appropriate patient information collected and maintained.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Reception Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Practice Manager
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
1. Reception duties
(i) Ensure efficiency of appointment system and monitor flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.
(ii) Ensure that patients without appointments but who need ‘urgent consultation’ are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
(iii) Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensure procedures are completed.
(iv) Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
(v) Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.
(vi) Enter requests for home visits on computer, including all relevant information and where necessary refer to the Duty Doctor.
(vii) To navigate the patient to the correct service, appointment, clinician at the right time, first time.
2. Management of medical records
(i) Scan/File correspondence, reports, results etc., as directed, ensuring that they are scanned/filed in the correct record and in adherence to practice protocol.
(ii) Ensure records are kept neat and tidy and in good repair with all necessary information recorded.
(iii) To maintain update and monitor computerised data base.
3. Preparation of consulting rooms
(i) Ensure that the consulting rooms are prepared in readiness for each consulting session, checking full range of forms and requirements and re-stocking as required.
(ii) Ensure that the consulting rooms are checked at the end of the each consulting session and left tidy and secure.
4. Operation of telephone system
(i) Receive and make calls as required. Divert calls and take messages as appropriate..
5. Monitoring of waiting room
(i) Monitor waiting room to ensure that it is kept in a reasonably neat and tidy manner.
6. Repeat Prescriptions
(i) With the exception of controlled drugs receive and prepare a prescription form ready for a doctor’s signature.
(ii) Ensure that problems and queries regarding repeat prescribing are brought to the attention of the appropriate doctor and that follow-up action is taken to resolve such matters.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
· An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
· An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to patients’ enquirers and request.
· Keyboard skills essential, computer literacy preferred.
· Proven accuracy in transcribing information from request to issue of prescription.
· Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20 per week
Salary: £11.00 per hour
