In the busy months our garden team have earnt up to £150 in service charge per month, whilst service charge varies depending on bookings with the staycation concept thriving, you can do the maths.
Hours: 40 hours per week.
A new and exciting hybrid role at THE PIG in the South Downs! Join us in overseeing our two-acre vineyard. With traditional sparkling varieties and a few experimental rows, our vineyard is in its fourth year. This year we will be looking to take our first harvest and start making our own wine!
The role of Grounds Person – Vineyard, will focus on the maintenance of our vineyard, ensuring all vines are well-kept by pruning, detailed canopy management, soil cultivation, weeding, spray applications and crop monitoring. As our gardens and grounds are open to our guests, you must be confident to interact with them daily. We are home to pigs, chickens and quails, so some animal husbandry may be required.
This role will work alongside our existing grounds and garden team which is made up of two parts; the kitchen garden team who are solely responsible for the productive garden spaces and the grounds team who look after the lawns, trees, and maintenance of any formal borders. Both teams work harmoniously on all projects and events supporting each other in all that we do.
Responsibilities includes, but not limited to:
- Use and maintenance of a range of tools (both mechanical and manual), these include strimmer’s/brush cutters, mowers, leaf blowers, spades, forks, secateurs, shears, rakes, etc.

Tying vines & harvesting.

Canopy management and soil cultivation.

Pruning

Weeding and watering.

Driving of ride on mowers and utility vehicles (E.G John Deere Gator)

Tractor driving, as/ when required.

Animal management, including feeding, collecting eggs, cleaning housing, and changing bedding, administering medicines when appropriate.

General estate repairs, such as fencing and minor carpentry tasks

Interacting with guests.
Experience in a similar role, plus PA1, PA3 and PA6, usage and maintenance of garden machinery such as petrol strimmer’s and mowers is preferred but not essential. Tractor driving experience and ability desired.
