It is an exciting time to join us as we seek to expand our offer of chaplaincy support to all clients and staff.
We seek to have a distinctive Christian ethos enabling people to develop their full potential in mind, body and spirit. The Chaplain role will contribute to this by:
- By being present with people and providing a non-judgemental ‘listening ear’
- Through offering prayer that invites God into the situation
- Leading devotions and the weekly staff prayer meeting
- Being willing to engage young people and staff in positive activities and wellbeing support
- By recruiting, training and leading a team of volunteer chaplains to offer meaningful pastoral support
- Through building partnerships with local Churches and Christians.
Young people and staff have recognised the need for additional pastoral resource who can offer support which sits outside of the engagement worker- client relationships. The role will need to be approached in the following way:
Work in line with YMCA Norfolk policies on safeguarding, professional boundaries, lone working, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion. Training on this will be provided.
Support our ethos and values in the style and nature of delivery. The Chaplain will need to be able to engage young people impacted by trauma as well as a staff team spread out across the county.
Ensure that no conditionality exists and that a neutral power balance exists in all relationships with young people and staff.

Job Role:
- To provide pastoral support to staff who request it across Norfolk. Respond to young people requesting support with their spiritual development across Norfolk. Recruit, train and lead a team of Volunteer Chaplains. Develop and maintain relationships with Churches, individual Christians and other faith-based agencies and communities.

What you’ll need to succeed:
You will have an excellent understanding of the Christian faith and the nature of spiritual and pastoral support, and be skilled in delivering Christian devotionals and Christian faith based talks and presentations. Being able to lead and motivate others will come naturally to you, and you will have experience of managing volunteers in a relevant environment.
