Job Description:
Due to our continued growth, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. We are looking for an individual who has experience of reciprocating or rotating machinery involving complex assemblies.
The Senior Design Engineer position is a permanent role working within the Design & Analysis group to create designs for high performance automotive, aerospace or racing programmes. The role represents a great opportunity to develop as an Engineer, learning from a broad range of experts across Cosworth’s spectrum of activities: Mechanical Design, Simulation, Manufacturing, Test and Development.
As a Senior Design Engineer you will create and implement designs using Computer Aided Design software. Research opportunities for new concepts, improved reliability, refinement, regulatory compliance for new projects, create prototypes and production parts.
The Role:
Working for a Chief Design Engineer, you will be expected to:

Develop schemes and detailed designs full consideration for form, fit, function and budget.
- Create and release accurate assemblies, models and drawings to Cosworth standards and processes.
- Exercise independent technical judgement using sound engineering principles appropriate experience.
- Work to project deadlines and provide regular feedback on reports and progress.
- Take ownership from concept design, development test to production.
- Work interactively with other members of the organisation communicating ideas and technical information.
- Provide engineering support to Production Engineers, Build Technicians, Suppliers, Development and Calibration Engineers during component manufacture, assembly and test.
- Guide less experienced Design Engineers.
- Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
- Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
Candidate Profile:

Educated in an engineering discipline or have acquired relevant experience.
- Experienced in Powertrain Design or a similar industry involving reciprocating or rotating machinery and complex assemblies with a minimum 5 years experience.
- Excels at mechanical design.
- Experienced CAD user; proficiency in NX being an advantage.
- Has a good understanding of engineering control and release processes through a Product Lifecycle Management system such as Teamcenter or SAP.
- Can specify limits and fits of mating parts and tolerances across assemblies.
- Can select suitable materials and manufacturing processes.
- Has a good understanding of inspection techniques.
- Has a good understanding of the causes and effects of mechanical system failures.
