Job Description

About the role and our team

Join the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture as an Inland Fisheries Officer!

Our supportive team manage and protect fisheries and their supporting ecosystems within the Isle of Man and the territorial sea. We develop innovative and dynamic fisheries management measures that seek to balance the economic, environmental and social needs of the Isle of Man.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and working closely with the Inland Fisheries Foreman
  • Monitoring fish breeding work e.g. the capture and transport of live fish (including salmon, trout and eels) and rearing from fertilised eggs right through to adult fish
  • Delivering advice to and liaising with contractors, landowners, farmers and Government Departments such as to minimise adverse impacts and where possible, enhance riverine habitats
  • Conducting freshwater fisheries monitoring and surveying to provide data for guiding future initiatives
  • Assisting in the operation of the Department's aquaculture facilities that produce high quality rainbow trout for recreational angling in our reservoirs

This post offers you both outdoor and indoor work with opportunities involving enforcement to protect our fisheries from poaching, unauthorised development of water courses or other harmful practices.

What can this role offer me?

You will receive an additional 15% pay allowance when providing unsociable hours cover at the Department’s aquaculture facilities, this will be on a seasonal/rota basis and will be within your 37 hour working week. You will also receive an additional pay allowance for any overtime worked outside of your normal 37 hour working week.

Training will be provided including police powers and procedures, criminal procedures and investigations, first aid at sea, firefighting at sea, ML5 medical assessment, operating electrofishing equipment and survival at sea.

You will also have access to our Learning, Education and Development Centre and the fantastic range of fully funded courses we support.

A full valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle is required for this role.

A relocation package and interview expenses are not available for this role.
