Job Description


We are looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner into the Urban Space team of our Transport Planning Business in either the St Albans (Hertfordshire) or London Aldgate offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join an accomplished team and work on a range of transport modelling, including urban micro-simulation projects for a wide variety of clients.

This Principal Transport Planner will report to an Associate Director within a team collaborative and open office environment. A key part of this role is winning and delivering work as well as providing leadership, mentoring and technical advice for aspiring team members.

As such, this Principal Urban Space Transport Planning Consultant will need to have experience of traffic and transport modelling and transport planning. St Albans is one of our central hubs for the Transport Planning and Development Planning team, located 30 minutes north from London St Pancras / Kings Cross, and on the Thameslink railway line with direct routes to Croydon, Wimbledon, Luton, Brighton, and more. London Aldgate is one of our major hubs for our global consultancy services, and working closely with our colleagues in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, as well as other offices; and is on the Hammersmith and City/ District Line at the Aldgate East Station.

We develop and use some of the most sophisticated transport modelling techniques, applying a range of specialist software, and offer a comprehensive internal training programme to further assist professional and technical development. The successful Principal Transport Planner will be joining a growing Transport Planning team that is actively involved in the delivery of projects and services to a range of both local and national clients including:Transport for London (TfL);National HighwaysLondon Boroughs such as Ealing, Sutton, and WandsworthLeicestershire County Council


Qualifications


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive knowledge of microsimulation modelling software, preferably Vissim etc. Familiarity with TfL MAP and TAG guidance, and will have in-depth experience of significant model development.
  • Extensive data analysis/ processing knowledge/ skills with scripting experience are an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of traffic engineering/ junction design principles
  • Experience in presenting to large audiences
  • Project management (delivering large/medium transport planning projects, including traffic modelling to quality standards, on time, and within budget)
  • Experience in line management and small to medium-team management, supervision of workload and support to junior staff
  • Business Development and proposal preparation
  • Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision
  • Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard
  • Involvement with broader business development activity and raising of the team’s and company’s profile

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant BSc/MSc/BEng Civil Engineering / Transport planning degreePost-graduate qualifications an advantage
  • Experience and understanding of other transport modelling software including one or more SATURN, CUBE, EMME, VISUM.
