What will you be doing:
Risk & Opportunity Management
- Ensuring the data for the UWS Risk & Opportunity Register, which is held in the Submarines Active Risk Manager (ARM) tool, is kept up to date.
- Leading on regular reviews with the risk and opportunity owners. Ensuring mitigation actions are progressed with the action owners. Developing the maturity of new candidate risks & opportunities with owners.
- Presenting, on behalf of the Line Manager, the case for approval of any risk drawdowns or opportunity realisation to the ICS Dreadnought Risk & Opportunity Review Board. Acting as the UWS risk & opportunity representative into the ICS Dreadnought PMO.
Baseline Change Management
- Supporting the Line Manager in managing change to the UWS Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) schedule, through the formal Submarines' Change Request (PMBCR) process. Raising the change formally in the Submarine's PMBCR SAP tool.
- Working with the relevant P6 planners to ensure an accurate representation of the change is reflected in the PMBCR supporting information "backing-sheet".
- Managing/tracking the change through the various stages of approvals and maintaining the UWS status tracker of all UWS PMBCRs.
- Liaising with the UWS Lead planner to ensure that all approved changes are implemented into the UWS Primavera P6 baseline and forecast plans in the defined monthly update window.
Earned Value Management
- After completing the relevant training, assisting the Line Manager in the monthly analysis, and reporting of Earned Value (EV) variances.
- Engaging with the Product Leads to ascertain the causes of the variances and agreeing any recovery actions that may be required and all actions from EV analysis are completed.
Spend Management
- Working with the Deputy CAM, Lead Planner and Line Manager to evaluate actual Labour spend against forecast demand and to identify corrective actions, where required, as part of the monthly progress update cycle.
- Ensuring that each Product Lead updates their Materials Spend Management Template each month, so that the procurements placed with suppliers and their milestone payment profiles are accurately represented in both the Materials Spend Management Template and in SAP. This is an important enabler for the quarterly Estimate At Completion submissions and the monthly Earned Value analysis.
UWS Assumptions, Exclusions and Dependencies (AD&E) Register
- Holding reviews with each of the Product Leads monthly to check the status of the contents of the AD&E register, with specific focus on managing dependency dates.
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential
- Project management experience.
- Demonstrable experience in planning / project controls within a complex technical/engineering environment.
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
Desirable
- APM or Prince 2 qualification or similar Project Management qualification.
- Experience in MS Office applications (Outlook and Excel) including Primavera, MS Project and SAP.
- Experience in managing a risk register using a commercial tool, e.g. ARM and application of EVM.

The Under Water Surveillance Team:
As the Project Controls Professional, you will be an integral part of a small team that is responsible for providing the project controls services to the wider UWS Team. The UWS control account comprises of several distinct but related product areas, each head up by a Product Lead with their own product teams. The UWS Control Account Manager is ultimately accountable for delivery of all the products into the Dreadnought build programme.
