We are currently recruiting a number of Senior Business Analysts to support the business in implementing change and improvements, by carrying out Business Analysis for a wide range of projects, and to contribute to the progression of the Business Analysis profession within Defra.
You will be offered the chance to work on a wide range of high-profile digital services, including public facing, collaborating with senior stakeholders and departments to understand business needs, elicit requirements, identify opportunities for change, undertake business process improvement and deliver solutions.
You will act as the conduit between our user population and project teams, leading and undertaking business analysis for large and complex IT-enabled business change projects and programmes, giving thought to vision and scope, people, processes, user requirements, data and IT. Working alongside other specialists, this is an opportunity to really shape our IT practice and to revolutionise how people in the UK understand, interact with and manage our natural environment.
Person specification
- Understand strategic arenas and lead business analysis on large and complex projects. Investigate business problems and opportunities, considering all perspectives, and analyse and model current and future business landscapes and ensure outcomes are aligned with business strategy and service vision
- Lead requirements definition and management within a project or programme
- Elicit and analyse business and user requirements to a level that enables effective build and delivery or procurement of IT services / solutions
- Facilitate prioritisation of needs and ensure traceability back to source and business objectives
- Undertake business process improvement to support business change activities
- Lead communication with stakeholders to support understanding, design, build and delivery of IT services / solutions to meet user needs
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across DDTS, Defra, external customers, stakeholders, and suppliers to achieve common goals
- Support the development of robust business cases - help to identify and analyse potential benefits, feasible options for achieving those benefits and associated business risks
- Promote and ensure the use of appropriate techniques, methodologies and tools – including Agile principles and a user-centred design approach
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement for Business Analysis within DDTS through proactive participation in the Business Analysis community - developing best practice, standards, leading community activities, sharing knowledge, mentoring, improving ways of working and championing the Business Analysis role across Defra
Skills and Experience
- Experience of working at a senior level, leading and undertaking Business Analysis on major business ICT change projects delivering transformational change in different business / digital / data / technology areas
- Extensive experience of a structured approach to Business Analysis using a range of methods, tools and techniques including working in fast paced multi-disciplinary teams, Agile project delivery environments and iterative user centred design practices
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills, able to bring clarity to complex business problems and concepts, and shape business solutions with a focus on delivery
- Excellent communicator at all levels, influencing diverse stakeholder communities across the organisation. Adept at presenting complex information in a tailored format to communicate key findings and recommendations
- Work independently, proactively and with versatility in response to changing circumstances. Can prioritise and manage own workload within tight timescales
- Inspire, collaborate and an inclusive team player providing support and guidance to other team members, and can work across organisational boundaries and disciplines to deliver results
- Extensive experience of Business Analysis throughout the software delivery lifecycle, from concept through to implementation of successful solutions and services.

Salary: £49,403.00-£61,392.00 per year
