General Foreman – Environment

Thames Water (Greater London & Surrounding Areas)

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for a General Foreman to join the team at Galliford Try.

You will work on our Thames Water Frameworks within our Environment Business, who are experienced in successfully delivering schemes of varying sizes, predominately to the Water Industry, across both Treatment Waste and Water schemes.

Ideally, you will be based in or around the London area within the Thames Water region and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.

As a General Foreman, you will ensure works are executed safely, within programme and to the highest quality standards.

Day-to-day, you will be managing the site-based construction works and will be responsible for effective coordination of resources working on the project.

It will be your role to ensure temporary and permanent works are delivered in accordance with the design, carefully manage material and plant requirements to meet programme and financial targets and assist in planning and programming with the site engineering teams.

You’ll be a key member of the project delivery team, participating in site discipline meetings to aid effective coordination and delivery of the works, liaising and communicating with site teams and subcontractors to undertake site inductions with all subcontractors and deliver toolbox talks and 10-minute briefings. It will be down to you to ensure subcontractors deliver work to meet safety, quality and programme requirements, supervising subcontractors to ensure quality and “right first-time approach”.

At Galliford Try, our aim is to create and maintain an environment where care for our people and those who work with us is our top priority. You’ll be responsible for the Health & Safety of yourself and others, encouraging a safe and collaborative working environment that supports our Health, Safety and Environment culture. As General Foreman, it will be your role to ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and Permit to Work systems are in place before work commences and assist in the preparation of RAMS, COSHH assessments and safety plans as required.

About You:

As well as your relevant experience (Highways, Rail, Water or Aviation etc) in a related discipline (Earthworks, structures, Drainage etc) and proven leadership capability, we are seeking individuals with a calm, level-headed approach and strong communication skills in order to get the most of the team and subcontractors.

Working on site, we’d like you to have SMSTS, CSCS, TWS and First Aid. However, we will support you in covering any training needs. You’ll have strong IT skills and be fully conversant with the Microsoft suite of packages.

To be successful in this role, you’ll be confident in delivering safety briefings and toolbox talks, able to read and interpret design drawings and execute construction work in line with ITP’s, quality standards and safety documentation.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following key attributes;

  • Desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values and culture
  • Organised, structured and professional, with a passion for excellence, striving to delivering the best.
  • Flexibility, resilience and the ability to influence and build relationships with key stakeholders. Demonstrating strong ethical standards with openness and honest.
  • Commitment to the provision of excellent customer service, passionate, committed and enthusiastic in all that you do.
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude and a desire to pick up new challenges. Dedicated to working together to achieve results.
