You will learn how to design sustainable buildings of all shapes, sizes and uses; from hospitals to homes, from data centres to offices, and so much more!
Our apprenticeship programme allows an opportunity to study for an academic qualification as well as gaining professional experience on our projects at the same time! You will be able to develop your technical skills through a variety of projects that you will take on as well as being supported in the development of your softer skills through our early careers learning and development program: ‘The Learning Curve’. We are looking to welcome an apprentice who is eager to learn and develop a career in sustainable building design.
What the role looks like

Work with us full time

Attend UCLAN on two week blocks, four times every academic year (part-time)

Gain a BEng (Hons) Fire Safety Engineer qualification (Apprenticeship)
Our lively Manchester team will welcome you to work within the Fire Safety Division, in both the fire engineering team and fire risk management team working on projects throughout the RIBA stages and the built environment. The team work on a diverse range of projects which range from new build schemes to assessing risk in the built environment, working closely with a small team who will assist you in becoming proficient in all aspects of fire safety engineering and risk management. The pathway will follow the unit modules of the degree where you will gain on the job knowledge, skills and behaviours through practical application.
In the course, you will learn technical content at university and simultaneously learn how to apply these skills practically in the workplace. We fully fund you throughout your studies, supporting you through mentoring, as well as on-the-job training through ‘The Learning Curve’.
What you will learn with us
Research and critically evaluate complex fire engineering systems, products and processes;-
Apply advanced mathematical, scientific and engineering principles, methods and modelling to the design of fire engineering solutions;

Contribute to the planning and assessing of appropriate design solutions and contribute to their refinement, evaluation and quality improvement;

Apply appropriate and relevant specialist fire safety guidance and codes of practice;

Contribute to the development, assessment and quantification of acceptable alternative solutions where proprietary solutions will not work due to bespoke/unique nature of the built environment;

Contribute to production and review of technical fire safety reports following appropriate methodologies and applying current and relevant legislation;

Use risk assessment and safe systems of work to keep self and others safe;
What will you need to succeed?
UCAS: 104 points at A2 including Grade C in A Level Maths and Physics/STEM-
GCSEs: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent

BTEC Extended Diploma: DMM in Engineering, including Merit in Maths units

BTEC Diploma: D*D including sufficient Science

T Level: M including Maths and Physics or STEM IELTS: 6.0

International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 104 points from Higher Level subjects including relevant Science at Higher Level

A keen attitude to learning and enthusiasm to achieve in the workplace and in your studies

Strong numeracy skills

Confident communication skills both written and verbal
