Library Assistant: 12 month full time contract, working 36.5hrs per week

- Working week includes Saturday working, with a mid-week day off
- One late night per week finishing at 7.15pm – either Monday or Tuesday
You will be working in the Business & Reception team at the Library of Birmingham, which includes two service areas: Business, Employment & Learning and Reception, Tourist Information and the Library Shop. You will be supporting children, young people, families and adults in their use of both library services plus visitors to the City who are looking for information on visitor attractions.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a team delivering a first class, customer focussed service in a busy and demanding library environment. The Business, Employment & Learning work includes taking part in supporting customers with business databases, Job Library resources, promoting Business & Intellectual Property, signposting to careers services, voluntary organisations.
Work on Reception, Tourist Information & the Library Shop involves acting as the first point of contact to other library areas, signposting to specific library collections and resources, external agencies and organisations, highlighting and promoting Birmingham and the Library as a destination point, highlighting tourist attractions and points of interest, cash handling and stock promotion with the Library Shop. Training will be provided for all aspects.
This role will support the Manager and Team in delivering a wide range of library services to the public including: delivery of the Library of Birmingham Enquiry Line and supporting customers to access other floors and services within the Library of Birmingham. You will be involved in the day to day running of the service and have duties which will include working with collections, stock management and maintenance; assisting with colleagues with other promotional activities and workshops for those looking to start a business; and in producing printed resources & displays.
You must be able to work alternate Saturdays (day off for this midweek) and be able to work a late night up to 7:15pm.
