Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for two Trainees (ST4-6 or MRCPsych qualified CT3) in a London Psychiatry training programme.

You are invited to apply for these 12 month out of programme posts, starting in August 2023 and contribute to exciting developments in Medical Education at East London NHS Foundation Trust in our teaching partnership with Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The posts are aimed at ST4-6s, or MRCPsych qualified CT3s, who wish to enhance their educational portfolio as part of their career development. These out of programme experience (OOPE) posts will provide opportunities to build personal teaching experience, develop expertise in educational theory and practice, and to undertake supervised educational research. It is aimed at outstanding trainees who wish to pursue a career as a clinical teacher.

There will be opportunities to take part in the development of our new curriculum and scope for educational research.

You will be encouraged to generate publishable outputs, including conference presentations (national and international) and publications in peer reviewed medical and educational journals.

For informal queries please contact Dr Helen Bruce, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, via [email protected]

The post will offer generic adult learning opportunities allowing the Fellow to develop educational insight and capability. This will include lecturing and small group work with medical undergraduates, as well as multi-professional group learning opportunities. Generic professionalism training opportunities will also be provided. Clinical skills training for undergraduates and postgraduates will form a significant part of the job description. The post holder will also be trained in work-place-based assessment methods and appraisal techniques.

The Fellow will be expected to build a generic clinical educational portfolio. When appropriate the Fellow will be encouraged to submit this portfolio for professional accreditation (if available) to the Academy of Medical Educators. The Fellow will be supported in producing this portfolio by an educational developmental and appraisal process. Performance management and job planning will also provide feedback and quality assurance for the Faculty Development Unit at the London Deanery.

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations
