Our apprenticeship programme is paid and is for a period of 12 – 18 months (dependent upon reaching the requirements for the qualification) starting in September 2023. It is a level 3 apprenticeship and you will be expected to complete a Level 3 qualification alongside your work with South Wales Police. You will be supported through the course by a tutor from the college and by your team in the workplace. At the end of the qualification, you will be able to apply for a permanent role within South Wales Police.
This apprenticeship within Commercial & Procurement Services is an excellent development opportunity for you to gain a broad exposure to procurement. You will have opportunity to develop your business skills and knowledge of procurement. We are a joint unit, and you will support the Procurement team across South Wales and Gwent forces, assisting in the day to day business. The role will provide administrative support to the Procurement Services team whilst working with the South Wales Police Apprenticeship Programme.
The apprenticeship includes completion of the requirements of a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification in Business Administration. This will be supplemented with training to introduce the individual to procurement in the public sector.
There will opportunity to develop skills and experience in a wide area of procurement processes and procedures including processing of purchase requisitions, administration of travel requests, administration of force purchase cards, engagement with suppliers, formatting and development of intranet pages, administration on procurement related websites, ethical and socially responsible procurement and contract management awareness.
The post-holder will benefit from Smarter Working policies, with a mixture of home working and working in South Wales Police Headquarters.

Please note to be eligible for the SWP Apprenticeship Programme you must:

Have a good standard of education to at least GCSE A-C grade, including Maths and English, or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and abilities.

Be a British Citizen, citizen from the European Economic Area (EEA), Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.

Not have previously completed an apprenticeship, internship, or graduate programme with South Wales Police.

If you are applying for a South Wales Police Staff Apprenticeship as a career change opportunity then the role you apply for must be of a different discipline than any previous qualifications you hold. For example if you have a ICT degree you would not be able to apply for the ICT apprenticeship, but could apply for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion apprenticeship.
