Job Description

Department of Health Sciences

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Health Sciences for an enthusiastic and motivated researcher to work in our multidisciplinary Public Health and Society Research Group (https://www.york.ac.uk/healthsciences/research/public-health/).

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a suite of applied research projects seeking out effective ways of supporting parents and families to promote the healthy development of babies and infants. The post holder will support the delivery of the Best Start topic of the Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration (https://www.arc-yh.nihr.ac.uk/what-we-do/healthy-childhood).

This includes the design and evaluation (both qualitative and quantitative) of interventions aimed at improving infant mental health as well as the co-production and testing of outcome measures and tools.

This exciting role will involve working in close partnership with external collaborators from other organisations including the Bradford Institute for Health, the Universities of Leeds and Huddersfield and various NHS trusts and voluntary and community sector organisations.

You will join a friendly and enthusiastic team striving to improve outcomes for children and families, led by Dr Sarah Blower (https://www.york.ac.uk/healthsciences/our-staff/sarah-blower/).

Role

  • To participate actively in the planning and management of research projects, including supervising others and providing expert advice/guidance
  • To contribute to and/or lead external research funding applications

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • PhD in a relevant subject (psychology, social science, health sciences and allied disciplines) or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of parenting and child development to engage in high quality research
  • Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies
  • Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for a small research project or identified parts of a large project
  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals for own and joint research
  • Successful management of research projects including supervision of the work of others and providing expert advice and guidance to teams
  • Commitment to working with services to foster positive outcomes for children and families

This is a new post and is available immediately. It will be based at the University of York with some remote working possible. Travel around Yorkshire and the Humber region will also be required for project meetings and other events as needed.
