Amey Consulting are currently looking to recruit a Civil Engineer to join our Consulting North Rail team. With offices located in Manchester, Derby, York and Edinburgh, we welcome applications from Civil Engineers across these regions.
As a Civil Engineer at Amey Consulting you’ll be part of a growing team of over 500 employees contributing to the delivery of one of the biggest rail infrastructure projects to come to the North.
You will be a key part of the team and take responsibility for the effective and efficient delivery of projects including The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). The TRU project is a multibillion-pound transformative programme that will improve connectivity between Manchester and Leeds and also bring better journeys to passengers.

- Develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs in accordance with the Client’s requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost effective, buildable solutions.
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances.
- Have a strong knowledge in relevant railway Group and Company standards, the GRIP process, British Standards, and Eurocodes.
- Guide CAD technicians in the development of design drawings, details, library of standard details etc.
- Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of the railway civil engineering infrastructure that fall within competence, including but not limited to, platforms, lineside equipment bases & structures, footbridges, over and under-bridges, buildings, etc.
- Check design calculations, contract documentation, drawings, technical documents and project reports complying with current standards
- Prepare and check assessment calculations, design calculations and structural analysis
- Direct, supervise and manage less experienced and junior staff including Graduate Engineers, Technicians and Trainee Engineers

- Ideally approaching Chartered Engineer status via ICE or IStructE.
- Experience in fulfilling the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer
- Can demonstrate a good understanding of the design process and possess the ability to independently undertake design and assessment work for Civil and Structural designs
- Ability to use the design software in the discipline including AutoCAD and Microstation and a basic understanding of BIM
- post-graduate experience in Civil Engineering railway design and or construction
- Desire to develop existing skills and acquire new technical competencies to enhance team capability
