Job Title: Senior Scientist: Antibody Discovery (Beacon®)
Location:
Job Type:
LifeArc, we want to hear from people who are as passionate as we are about making life science life changing that can improve patients’ lives.
This is a very exciting time to join LifeArc's antibody discovery team. We are greatly enhancing our single B-cell based antibody discovery platform, and as part of this development, we are acquiring the Beacon® optofluidic system (Berkeley Lights) for screening antibody-secreting cells. The instrument will be placed at the Francis Crick Institute in London, where our team has already established transgenic mice immunizations and single B-cell sorting. We are looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic team member who will be instrumental at first implementing the Beacon® optofluidic technology at the Crick Institute for LifeArc and then be responsible for running antibody discovery campaigns on the Beacon®, including developing fluorescence-based assays to screen antibody for binding and functional properties. Previous Beacon® experience would be welcomed but is not expected and you will receive extensive specialist training and get plenty of hands-on time with the system to become familiar. Deep experience in flow cytometry-based methods and ideally high throughput microfluidic systems as well as cell-based screening assays is highly desirable.
As a Senior Scientist, you will be expected to work independently to perform specialised and non-routine experiments and contribute to the scientific rationale of any assigned projects. Additionally, you will develop and apply your specialist knowledge of scientific techniques/experiments to further project objectives.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues across our Stevenage site. You will benefit from visiting this site to support your work and develop working relationships.
About you:
Education & experience required:
PhD or educated to BSc/MSc in Biochemistry/Biology/Biological Sciences or related subject and equivalent relevant laboratory experience in the field
Good understanding of B-cell biology and preferably antibody discovery
Experience with B-cell and/or plasma cell isolation and handling
Expertise in microfluidics- and/or flow cytometry-based (or other complex lab) instrumentation/methods
Expertise in fluorescence- and cell-based assay development
Willingness to embrace opportunities to expand skills with new methods and equipment
Self-motivated and adaptable
Critical and analytical thinker
Skilled in data handling and interpretation
Detail orientated and accurate
Ability to work well with others
Ability to accurately follow directions
Excellent communicator – both verbal and written
Ability to influence and persuade others
Act as a scientific role model, bringing our principles to life
At LifeArc, our ambition is to make life science life changing. We do this by advancing scientific discoveries beyond the lab, faster, so that they can shape the next generation of diagnostics, treatments, and cures.
Working at the cutting edge of translational science and as the early-stage translation specialists, we progress scientific discoveries on their journey to becoming a medicine, diagnostic or intervention that can improve patients’ lives. Our work begins by seeking out innovative science, then helping to develop this to a point where there is a clinical and commercial pathway for others to invest the time and money to take it further forward.
Salary will be determined by qualifications and experience along with other exceptional benefits. Because we understand everyone has different requirements, our flexible benefits allow you to choose those which are important to you. Our pension scheme offers employer contributions of up to 12%, private health insurance, and annual leave of 31 days PLUS bank holidays.
