Harrow School Short Courses (HSSC) brings the quality of a Harrow School education to all through a portfolio of part-time short courses, available year-round online and in the school holidays. HSSC encompasses the following divisions:

Summer School: We are a specialist provider of junior English language study holidays for young international students aged 8 to 17. Each summer we welcome students from around 45 different countries, all of whom come on residential courses and live in the School’s boarding

houses. In addition, we also arrange closed courses for large groups of students from a single nationality and collaborate with third parties such as UAL and BCG to manage hybrid study travel programmes.

English Online: An online English language school that delivers bespoke one-to-one and small group English classes, via our virtual campus, to international children and adults throughout the year.

Activities Staff are the front-line ambassadors for the summer school experience. Activities Staff embody the values of the course and ensure our students have an enjoyable experience whilst in the United Kingdom. Each student participating in the summer school is placed under the supervision of a designated Activities Leader who is a senior and experienced member of staff.
Activities Staff are employed to assist and work alongside the Activities Leaders to undertake the

Primary role daily care and supervision of the students participating in the courses.

Activities Staff

To be an ambassador for the summer school experience
To assist the Activities Leader in the smooth running of the course
To deputise for your Activities Leader during their day off and assume their responsibilities, for which you will be paid a responsibility bonus
To assist in the collection and transfer of students from London airports and rail termini
To accompany and supervise students on all on-site and off-site activities
To participate in activities when appropriate
To design, or help create activities for students in support of the Activities Leaders

It is a requirement of all staff to perform residential boarding house supervision duties for which you will be paid a responsibility bonus. A rota of residency duties will be provided at the start of the course.

Terms & Conditions

Contract duration This contract will be for a fixed term commencing and terminating according to your contract of employment.

Hours of work You will be required to work a total of 6 days out of 7 per week, to include weekends, as agreed in advance with your line manager.

Salary for this role will be from £65.78 per day to £82.63 per day, depending on experience, qualifications and in accordance with your role and responsibilities. Your pay will be calculated according to the number of days you work, subject to deductions for tax and NI contributions. You will be paid on the last Friday of each month on submission of completed and authorised timesheets.

You will be paid £23.00 per shift for Residency duties.

Holidays Staff paid on a daily basis are required to take (and will be paid for) 1 day of holiday forevery 6 days worked.

Accommodation is provided without charge and all meals will be provided for the duration of your employment. Staff are accommodated in boarding houses normally also occupied by students, but with private staff-only bathroom facilities. Although there are dedicated pastoral staff in each house, all residential staff have a duty of care to any students in their boarding house.

This position is subject to completion of the following pre-employment checks and requirements:

All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a self-declaration form regarding any criminal convictions and an online media search will be carried out.
Verification of identity and right to work in the UK.
Satisfactory explanation of all gaps in education and employment history.
A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
If you have worked or been resident overseas for three months or more in the previous five years, equivalent overseas criminal record certificate from those countries.
Verification of qualifications and professional status.
A check from the list held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002 (Barred List Service check).
A clear Teacher Reference Number Check (TRN) in the case that you have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
A prohibition from teaching check including check of any EEA authority restrictions.
Receipt of at least two references, one of which will normally be from your most recent employer, which are satisfactory to HSEL. These will be checked and verified before employment. References produced by candidates will not be accepted. Reference requests will ask specifically whether there is any reason that you should not be engaged in situations where you have responsibility for, or substantial access to, persons under 18. Returning staff will need to provide referee details for their most recent employer, if this has changed since their last employment with HSEL.
Receipt of completed Health Assessment Questionnaire.
Completion of an online safeguarding training course.

The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom s/he is responsible or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with HSEL’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school, s/he must report any concerns to his/her line manager or HSEL’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
