Job Description
We are looking for an Outdoor Play and Learning Instructor to join Operation Play Outdoors and be part of our team to deliver a wide variety of innovative play and outdoor learning sessions with schools, nurseries and other clients.
The successful candidate must be confident to plan and lead sessions outdoors with a variety of clients, with a primary focus on schools, however the role will adapt to the demands of the business and our outdoor play and learning instructor will be expected to work with people of all ages ranging from nursery to adult groups on occasion.
Our programmes include bespoke outdoor play and learning for schools and nurseries, outdoor play and forest school sessions for various groups as well as our range of outdoor birthday party services. We are looking for strong leaders, with a passion for working outdoors, motivated to deliver the highest standard of activities and are willing to get involved in all aspects of the business. Potential candidates should be comfortable speaking in front of a large audience and to take the lead of up to 30+ children, confidently delivering exciting and educational outdoor activities. We are looking for people that are happy to get stuck in, jump in puddles, get their hands dirty (literally covered in mud) and are comfortable in all seasons outdoors.
Full training will be provided however, we are looking for fast learners, career orientated individuals that want to make a difference to those that they work with.
Experience in activities such as forest school, outdoor games, bushcraft, loose parts play, outdoor sports, outdoor education are all desirable.
This role will be offered on a permanent basis with an initial 6 month probationary period.
This role will be 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. (Weekend work likely)
Your principle duties would be:
1. Providing safe, creative, appropriate play and outdoor learning activities in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments to a variety of clients. A knowledge of games, various forest school activities and a willingness to get stuck in from the get go are requirements for this role.
2. Setting up play and outdoor learning spaces including moving heavy equipment and transporting kit to various indoor and outdoor sites. This is tough work, sometimes 10/12 hour days but very rewarding.
3. To create a safe and fun environment for clients of all ages and abilities. Candidates must be confident in delivering games, not be scared to be silly, jump in puddles, get dirty and generally have the energy to play an endless game of tig with 30 children, we expect all staff to get fully involved.
4. To deliver games and activities in outdoor environments to clients of various ages and abilities. We are always looking for new games and clients must be able to hold the attention of very excitable children yet still deliver activities to a safe and high standard.
5. To deliver outdoor programmes in all types of weather throughout the year in a fun and safe manner and role model our positive approach to working outdoors at all times. Yes this means working outdoors in the snow, rain, high winds, we're out in it all, and we must deliver with the same high energy and enthusiasm regardless of what the weather presents.
6. Any other relevant duties as discussed with the Manager or Owner. We also create bespoke products and packages for clients and staff have to assist with this from time to time. We also have an office and lots of equipment to maintain, vans to clean, resources to pick up and site meetings to do. There's lots that go on behind the scenes and we need hard working individuals that use their initiative to keep the business operating smoothly.
7. Working within the framework of Operation Play Outdoors' policies and procedures.
To become an Outdoor Play and Learning Instructor with Operation Play Outdoors you must be enthusiastic, honest, reliable, hardworking, adaptable, bring lots of energy to the role and a willingness to have fun and enjoy working outdoors with a variety of clients including both adults and children.
