Job Description
AECOM operates to deliver a better world. We design, build, finance and operate infrastructure assets for governments, businesses, and organizations in more than 150 countries. As a fully integrated firm, we connect knowledge and experience across our global network of experts to help clients solve their most complex challenges. From high-performance buildings and infrastructure, to resilient communities and environments, to stable and secure nations, our work is transformative, differentiated, and vital. As a Fortune 500 firm, see how we deliver what others can only imagine at aecom.com and @AECOM.

The AECOM Nuclear EC&I Team provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry in both the nuclear new build and decommissioning sectors. In the new build sector, we are providing engineering support to the Developers of the UK’s fleet of new nuclear power stations. In the Decommissioning Sector, which requires considerable new build to enable decommissioning, AECOM provides support to the entire Nuclear Estate, including:
  • Multidisciplinary design support for various key nuclear clients.
  • Design and development of waste storage and disposal facilities
  • Multidisciplinary design support to defense projects.
An example project is for a client (name withheld) to design and build a completely new facility, including all site surveys, infrastructure planning, equipment integration from concept design to completed building with a very short time from design to build. The project utilised modular technology built to our designs and integrated together to give an extremely flexible and fast solution to our customers problems.

The project challenged the Nuclear Industry’s traditional approach to building & infrastructure design, installation and commissioning reducing the onsite labour intensive work, moving the risk to offsite build and commissioning. Utilising the latest in CAD & BIM technology to bring all the disciplines together seamlessly, ensuring all the designs of each discipline work harmoniously. Using this approach to accelerated design and build but without restricting the safety within the design has led to AECOM winning some significant infrastructure projects.

Nuclear EC&I Summer Placements at AECOM are engaged within working teams and work with experienced engineers who guide and mentor them during their time at AECOM. You will be working on live projects where your role will include:
  • Drafting of Drawings using AutoCAD & 3D modeling using REVIT.
  • Preparation of design documentation such as basis of design, design method statements, specifications.
  • Developing an understanding of highly regulated industries.
  • Developing an understanding of Safety Cases and the supporting documentation.
  • Developing an understanding of risk and the preparation of designer’s risk assessments.
  • Liaison with the project team and translate working designs into construction drawings.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Working towards a degree in electrical or control engineering, with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above
  • Must be able to demonstrate legal right to work in the UK and meet the requirements for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
  • Preferably completed modules related to electrical, control, or instrumentation
  • Ability to demonstrate a good technical understanding of electrical principals
  • Demonstrable interest in ECI and developing a career in this industry
  • Good Microsoft Office skills essential such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing with the confidence to engage with a variety of people (clients, colleagues, stakeholders, and sub-contractors alike)
  • Enthusiastic and hard-working, with ambition and drive
  • Ability to structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently without losing initiative & focus
  • Capability to satisfy client and business expectations and be able to consider the wider financial and commercial implications of their actions

Preferred Qualifications :
