Job Description

The Bodleian Law Library is one of the largest academic libraries in the United Kingdom, with over 300 desks and nearly half a million volumes on the shelves. Our collections cover the law of England and Wales, and we have holdings for more than 60 other jurisdictions, and research areas that include Comparative law, Jurisprudence, Roman Law, International Law and Criminology. We also hold the University’s Official Papers collection.
You will be a member of the Bodleian Law Library Weekend Team, and undertake a range of reading room duties. You will provide high quality customer service to a wide range of library users, responding to queries in person, by phone and online. You will help readers to locate items within the Bodleian libraries and e-resources using online catalogues and other search tools. You will assist readers in the use of IT equipment including reader PCs and photocopier-printers and carry out a range of routine library tasks, including book replacement and shelf tidying, filing and scanning. (Training for these tasks will be provided).
You will be reliable, punctual and able to work effectively in a small team. You will be an excellent communicator, able to demonstrate a commitment to customer service. You will carry out routine tasks carefully and accurately. You will have good general IT literacy and be able to lift, move and carry books and journals.
This is a permanent, part-time post, working 16.5 hours per week on Saturdays and Sundays during the University term.
You will be required to upload your supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one.
University benefits currently include a generous pension scheme, access to sports facilities at discounted rates, and free access to the Botanic Gardens and some exhibitions.
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example shared parental leave.
Only applications received online before 12:00 midday (GMT/BST) on Monday 13 February 2023 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place during the week commencing 27 February 2023.
