This is an exciting time to join as a senior member of the fundraising team, with the scope to shape and creatively input into the public fundraising strategy. The role is UK - Hybrid out of any Major BBC base.

BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s UK Charity, and exists to make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our refreshed objectives and activities will ensure the impact we have on children’s lives is front and centre of the work the charity undertakes over and above the projects and services we fund.

Our focus is on finding and funding the inspiring ideas that change children’s lives.

Main Responsibilities

The fundraising team is responsible for inspiring support from people across the UK to raise money for children and young people.

This role leads on maximising income from Community Fundraising Events and the Mass Fundraising Campaign and will be key in identifying and securing new sources of income, contributing to the development of the public fundraising strategy and diversifying our audience reach to engage and activate target audiences.

This is a senior and significant role within the Public Fundraising Team, as part of the Commercial Division of BBC Children in Need, with a focus on community groups, community partners and events. The role is focused on both the acquisition and retention of fundraisers and supporters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Head of Fundraising in the development of fundraising strategy, including new ways to generate and diversify income streams from key audiences, in line with audience insight and supporter behaviour
  • Managing the CarFest relationship, specifically to project manage and deliver the required activity across the event portfolio
  • Working with the Head of Fundraising to develop and deliver the Mass Fundraising campaign: budget and income forecast development, proposition development and delivering opportunities for integration and income generation across the wider campaign, including Broadcast Partners, Corporate Partners and the Appeal Show.
  • Driving growth in Community Fundraising income through the development and delivery of strategic fundraising partnerships including Girl Guiding UK and Rotary
  • Developing and delivering a pipeline of new community fundraising partnerships which amplify our fundraising campaign, engage target audiences and diversify our supporter base
  • Working with the Appeal Show producers to deliver the Fundraiser of the Year activity
  • Ensuring that all income is correctly recorded by finance and all information is accurately captured on the organisation’s database
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of IOF guidelines and other legislation and ensure that all processes are compliant
  • Managing the team assistant/co-ordinator as relevant
Are you the right candidate?

Below are the essential skills we’re looking for in relation to the role:

  • Demonstrable experience working in a fundraising environment and a track record of excellent stewardship and partnership management
  • Substantial experience delivering large-scale events
  • Extensive experience of managing senior-level stakeholders, including the development and presentation of business cases
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, with an ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences
  • Financial skills including the ability to construct and use spreadsheets to monitor a budget.
  • Proven ability to work as both a team member and in an independent capacity
  • A strong awareness of digital and social media.
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate successfully across organisational boundaries
  • Line management experience
