The role acts as a finance business partner to the British Red Cross Overseas Branches team, providing services on all aspects of financial management. The role will support each of the BRC Overseas Branches to build their financial capability.
How you'll make a difference…
You will provide support to the BRC Overseas Branches (OSB) team on all aspects of financial management including compliance with BRC’s and donor finance reporting requirements. With extensive travel to the region, this role will support the Overseas Branches to have effective and efficient financial management structure, processes, controls and systems. This will enable each branch to budget, plan, spend and report in a timely and accountable manner. This position aims to build the financial capability of the Overseas Branches so that the finance functions of each Branch can continue to operate independently and sustainably after this fixed term role has ended.
Duties include:
- To provide guidance and support to the Overseas Branches so that they comply with finance minimum standards. Monitor progress on finance minimum standards and provide regular updates on progress to the BRC OSB Country Manager.
- Provide ad hoc support on financial matters for each Overseas Branch around financial policy writing and best practice.
- Liaise with the Treasurer of each Overseas Branch to ensure there is sufficient financial oversight and provide support where needed.
- Propose and support the implementation of improved financial management controls and processes at each Overseas Branch.
- Support the Overseas Branches transition to cloud accounting software.
- Propose ways to improve each Overseas Branch’s budget preparation and budgetary control, to have budgets approved by the Board and submitted to BRC before the start of the year. Work with OSB staff to implement any changes required.
- To provide meaningful monthly management account analysis and insight on financial performance and contribute to the society’s approach to innovation and insight.
- To ensure that the planning and budget process is completed within the agreed organisational timetable and in accordance with procedures.
- Carry out oversight and routine reporting of OSB restricted funds as required.

What you'll bring to the role…
- Strong audit and internal controls knowledge with the ability to highlight weaknesses and make appropriate recommendations
- CCAB qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience (Part-qualified also considered)
- Highly computer literate with advanced knowledge of MS Office (particularly Excel) and computerised accounts systems
- Ability to assimilate complex financial and written information quickly and accurately
- Diplomacy skills with an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders
- Experience of developing financial systems to support international operations
- Experience of supporting programme teams with budget and forecast preparation
- Experience of risk management
- Experience of delivering financial training especially to non-finance people
This role will entail 8 to 12 weeks of overseas travel in and around the Caribbean including Bermuda, Monserrat, Anguilla and the Cayman Islands.
