We are seeking a Finance Assistant to offer proactive financial support within the academic School of Geography and its three hosted research centres. The role is an exciting opportunity and will offer the post holder exposure to transactional processes within a busy and research-intensive department. You will work closely with members of the Finance and Research Team in a friendly and supportive environment with a focus on offering excellent customer service to all members of the School. The department has a varied portfolio of research projects which include some large and complex grants which required high level administrative support to ensure funder compliance.
Duties will include dealing with expense claims and accounts payable invoices, payment requests, and assisting with running month end reports. You will create purchase orders, liaising with suppliers throughout the ordering process and requesting the set-up of new suppliers on the finance system where required. You will also assist with supplier enquires in regard to payments which includes both external suppliers and individuals who have submitted expenses claims. You will support the Finance Officer to process the general ledger journal entries for internal recharges and assist the Grant Officer with coordinating staff timesheets for research projects.
You will have strong numerical and IT skills, excellent attention to detail and a logical approach to problem solving. Excellent communication skills and being a strong team player are essential. You will be highly organised, and demonstrate the ability and willingness to work flexibly and to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines. The ability to work independently and as part of a team with a broad range of people is essential.
