Commercial Manager
This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated Commercial Manager to join a market leading consultancy and work on large scale infrastructure projects for Network Rail. The opportunity is open to a broad spectrum of experience from Assistant Commercial Manager grade, through to Senior/Director level.
To be based in Central London, this is open to both salaried and freelance applicants. The successful candidate will be experienced in delivering major infrastructure projects, preferably with a background in heavy and light rail.
Knowledge of Network Rail processes is desirable, and you will be conversant in both NEC and NR suites of contract.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the successful delivery of projects and commissions.
- Maintain high standards of commercial delivery in a challenging and fast-moving environment.
- Provide accurate commercial and cost management advice and reporting to the client.
- Setting objectives and priorities whether working independently or as a proactive team player.
- Effective communication to ensure all information is available for the successful completion of projects/commissions; liaising with other managers to ensure efficient financial control.
- Manage cost reporting of all allocated projects within the Network Rail framework. This includes Cost Forecasting, Anticipated Final Cost, Cost of Work Done, Gross Billing and Current Contract Value.
- Undertaking service delivery with minimal supervision and guidance.
- Delivering all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner.
- Providing commercial management support to the broader project team.
- Developing strong collaborative relationships with client and clients’ supply chain staff that will support the achievement of project goals.
- Negotiating and corresponding with clients.
- Identify and advise on all commercial risk/claim events.
- Support pre and post contract procurement activitiesas appropriate.
- Undertake final account settlements and internal reconciliation to project close-out within the agreed timescales.
- Provide support to estimating resources, offering guidance and advice on project scale/scope as required.
- Support the programme and project teams in monitoring for breaches of compliance with Network Rail Corporate governance.
Who are we looking for?
- Relevant educational background including degree or apprenticeship.
- Professional institution membership (CICES, RICS, ICE, etc), qualified or working towards qualification.
- A minimum of 2 years’ railway and/or construction experience.
- Technical delivery experience gained within civil engineering projects.
- Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills.
- Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute.
- An experienced negotiator.
- Experience of resolution of construction contract disputes.
Day rate/salary negotiable based on experience.
Hybrid working pattern available, but three days in the office is expected.
Office based in Central London.
