The role….
Reporting to the Barb Audiences Research Director, the Associate Director role will manage the set up and delivery of the Barb viewing panel expansion, a key strategic investment for Barb as they look to renew their panel delivery operation.
The panel expansion requires delivery to a detailed specification that required adherence to quality and timing requirements
This is a role will build on an existing team that delivers an existing complex set of projects, maintaining excellent client relationships. It would suit candidates with good all round skills and experience, particularly that with strong research, project management and interpersonal skills.
The role will be a mix of supplier, team and client management, spotting and solving problems ahead of time and maintaining excellent client service.
What will I be doing?
Founded by the major players in the UK television and advertising industry, Barb is responsible for delivering the UKs Television audience ratings and this fulfils three important purposes.
- Their viewing figures support decisions related to the making and distribution of TV programmes
- Their data inform the ongoing conversation about how broadcasters operate in the public interest and in accordance with prevailing legislation
- Advertisers, agencies and broadcasters use their data to support the planning and buying of advertising campaigns.
Consumption of TV content is derived from a passive viewing panel maintained by BARB. The panel must delivery minute by minute estimates for all BARB reported channels, every day of the year.
Ipsos have responsibly to deliver:
- the Establishment survey (ES) that collects statistics about TV equipment. This informs the panel design, controls and weights.
- all panel recruitment. While the ES is the main source of maintenance recruitment to the existing panel, the expansion exercise requires large additional survey sample to deliver the large volume of additional homes.
Both ES and panel recruitment activities are maintained to the highest possible standard in order to ensure that the panel is as representative as possible and delivers as accurate estimates as possible.
The successful candidate will join an existing team and provide additional resource to ensure that the expanded responsibilities can be delivered.
The team must ensure that:
- Best research practice is maintained
- The design of the panel expansion is being correctly implemented, that Internal suppliers have a clear understanding of requirements and deliver against these
- Members of the research team are working appropriately with the required level of supervision
- Research outputs are delivered to agreed standards
- Problems are identified quickly and suitable solutions found and implemented
What do I need to bring with me?
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate an interest in Media Research and the TV industry in general as well a range of the following skills:
Experience of project and team management, including:
- Managing and collaborating with suppliers
- Well organised, able to work to deadlines and with good attention to detail
- Supervising junior researchers to ensure the team combines to deliver a complex project accurately and to specification
Research and technical skills, including:
- Experience of quantitative research design and development
- Experience panel recruitment or participant engagement activities
- Ability to problem-solve in a logical manner
Intrepersonal skills:
- Client management
- Team management
- Flexible approach and attitude
