Job description
At the York Ghost Merchants we are passionate about our craft and proud of our outstanding reputation. We seek an enthusiastic and hard working candidate to join our small creative team to assist in the manufacture of York Ghosts for our shop and website. Working alongside our Master Ghostmakers the successful applicant will receive training throughout to encompass all aspects of workshop duties.
Full training and an apprenticeship is served in order to progress to the ranks of Ghost maker over a 6 month period ( 2 months probation followed by a further 4 months apprenticeship ). Once qualified as a Ghost maker pay rate increases.
Over the 6 month period the successful candidate will learn all aspects of Ghost making techniques & styles and provide a catalogue of Ghosts to demonstrate learned skills and techniques. These will be known as “Apprenticeship Ghosts”.
Continued creative development within personal Ghost making practice is encouraged.
There is a requirement to meet the weekly targets expected over the apprenticeship period and to become proficient and confident in all making styles and workshop procedures.
We expect all our staff to uphold, promote and demonstrate by example the core values of The York Ghost Merchants and to encourage through good working personal health and safety practices an efficient safe working environment.
A six month review will take place at the end of the apprenticeship period and if successful then maker becomes a fully qualified Ghost Maker. Apprenticeship may be extended by an agreed period if deemed necessary.
Qualifications are not essential however the role requires some practical understanding or aptitude for making and creativity.
