This Environmental Crime Officer role in the Enforcement Team, based within the Solent and South Downs Area (SSD) will primarily be focussing on enforcing Flood and Coastal Risk related operations and activities. The team has responsibility for a large area between Hastings, East Sussex to the East, the New Forest to the West to the Borders of Surrey and Wiltshire to the North.
The purpose of the role is to support the delivery of the following priorities in a dynamic and at times challenging environment:
- Working closely with flood permitting and asset performance teams
- Taking the lead on investigations into significant and serious offences surrounding non-permitted flood risk activities and non-compliance of flood risk permitted activities
- Using an evidence, intelligence and information analysis based approach to target the most serious offenders
- Preventing and disrupting criminal activity
- Protecting the environment, housing and businesses from flood and coastal risk
- Pursuing those who offend deliberately or with careless disregard for the environment
You'll liaise with internal teams and other agencies to provide professional advice and guidance on new and existing enforcement policies, procedures and techniques. You'll be delivering a flexible resource across functions in accordance with national priorities and supporting major investigations where directed.
You'll be expected to use continuous improvement methodology, tools and techniques to identify and implement, or influence, improving the way we work. Activities are implemented in accordance with Environment Agency Health, Safety and Wellbeing policies.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You'll be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
