PUBLISHING EDITOR - 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract

You will report to the Editorial Operations Managers and will work as part of the Editorial Operations team to provide workflow project management and centralised operations management for PLOS ONE and the PLOS Mega Journals to maintain and develop editorial workflows, manage editorial vendor performance, and uphold excellent contributor experience for authors, editors and reviewers.
Responsibilities
Navigate and operate the online submission system and IT platforms to understand and appraise the manuscript work flow- Monitor the efficiency of all work flow processes against staff, editor, author and reviewer target KPIs as defined by the Editorial Operations Managers
- Ensure standard journal work flows are maintained as established, implementing and adopting process updates when approved by the Editorial Operations Managers
- Monitor the efficiency, compliance and competency of editorial vendors, providing regular corrective feedback, and escalating trends when service agreements are not being met
- Liaise with editorial vendors to establish new processes and work flows; including the creation and delivery of updated training and documentation
- Pro-actively identify standard work flow deviations, blockages or backlogs to diagnose persistent editorial issues or process inefficiencies
- Be proactive in raising data-driven recommendations for journal operations and work flow improvements to the Editorial Operations Managers
- Contribute to work flow project proposals as requested, and undertake operations projects as directed by the Editorial Operations Managers
- Assist authors, reviewers, and academic editors by email and phone, answering queries when escalated by editorial vendors
- Troubleshoot persistent manuscript or system issues, providing expertise and advice, and exercising judgement to escalate to the Editorial Operations Managers and editorial colleagues as appropriate
Qualifications and Experience
A university degree or equivalent, scientific discipline is a plus- Experience in peer-reviewed scientific journals publishing
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
- Organized, efficient and excellent attention to detail
- Project management skills and a problem-solving mindset
- Technical proficiencies, knowledge of Excel, Word, file types and file conversions
- Experience with online systems or databases, knowledge of Salesforce is a plus
- A collaborative, team player mentality
- An ability to maintain a positive and professional customer service attitude

The base salary range we’ve established for this position is (UK) £26,500 to £30,000. The final salary will depend on several factors including the candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, education and other qualifications; the region in which the candidate resides, and internal pay equity with current PLOS employees in similar jobs.
