Our Gasoline and Diesel Development Teams support the development of differentiated fuels with an emphasis upon developing new and innovative routes to achieve improved performance and efficiency, as well as lower emissions; the understanding of the scientific and mechanistic aspects of fuels; and generating IP and business value for the global Mobility business through brands such as Shell V-Power and Shell FuelSave.

  • You will develop and maintain a deep knowledge of the fuel development journey, which covers the challenge of taking new and innovative chemistries, understanding the potential benefits from their use, combining that with a clear understanding of business needs driven by value and by consumer insights, developing new methodologies for measuring the product benefits, and understanding potential side-effects: ultimately generating a value-added commercial technology faster and more efficiently.
  • You will be involved in the planning, execution and reporting of R+D and technical service activities, actively driving/leading projects in collaboration with internal and external Operations (including blending, laboratory and analytical information on fuels blends)

Dimensions:

No direct reports. Individual accountability for on-time and on-budget delivery of project elements

What we need from you

  • Degree level education in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar
  • R+D experience in fuels, particularly gasoline/diesel testing and knowledge of fuel additives and their fate and benefits is an advantage. Fresh graduates with relevant internship experience are also encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated interest in the automotive/energy sectors is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-discipline team, spread over locations, operating to demanding technical targets and deadlines
  • Team worker, open to coaching, willing to learn, and not afraid to seek help/guidance when required, but also a highly motivated self-starter
  • Prior experience of the delivery of project-based activities in a research and development environment is an advantage
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • An innovative and creative approach to problem solving
  • Previous experience in developing/writing technical papers and presentations would be an advantage
  • Clear understanding of IP and managing 3rd party relationships
  • Expected to deliver visible technical and behavioural leadership and role model safety behaviours

If you don't see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed on the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply.
