Relief Library Assistant opportunities – Grade D (£11.39 per hour)
We require Relief Library Assistants to work in our network of 8 libraries in Gateshead Libraries and Heritage Service. The role assists with cover for holiday or sickness and is a fantastic opportunity to build experience in a customer facing role.
The role involves the issue, discharge and shelving of books, ensuring an effective and efficient service. You will engage with customers to promote reading and borrowing of books. You will provide assistance to users of the public IT facilities. You will assist with promotional library and heritage events and activities. You will deal with customer enquiries by phone, email and in person.
You will have knowledge of books and reading, and competent IT skills, including use of the internet, email and MS office. You will have the ability to communicate effectively with customers and have experience of using public libraries.
You must have experience of working within a team, delivering a high level of customer care and working with the public either face to face or by telephone and email.
You will have English and Maths GCSE at grade 4 or grade C or above.
Some evening and weekend working will be required and flexibility to work across a number of libraries.
