Job Description

The Belay Foundation finds trauma-responsive workers for families whose children have previously been in local authority care.

A fantastic opportunity is available to offer trauma-responsive babysitting to 2 brothers for one evening a fortnight. Additional hours may be available on a weekend or during the school holidays.

John** is 13 and has a great sense of humour. Paul** is 11 and also great company. Both boys are sporty, John on his bike and Paul playing football, and they both enjoy ice hockey. Like most children they also enjoy computer games at home. The boys have a rabbit in the garden and love animals. John and Paul were adopted from care and find some aspects of life difficult due to their earliest experiences. John has ASD and Paul has ADHD. Both boys also have sensory processing difficulties. John and Paul’s parents would like someone to build a relationship with the boys to offer them a regular fortnightly night out. There may also be some additional hours available on the weekend or during the school holidays.

You’ll have some experience of working with children with additional needs and be ready to learn about the impacts of early trauma. Mature and grounded, you’ll be able to fit in with the family and use the routines and strategies that work for the boys. You don’t need your own transport as the family’s home is easily accessible by public transport.

For this role, we are only looking for female workers*.

To support you The Belay Foundation will offer training in attachment and trauma, safeguarding, professional boundaries, regulating techniques as well as other any other preparation that will help you in the role. You will also receive ongoing support, peer supervision and clinical supervision.

This is a great opportunity to develop your practice supporting children with trauma and to learn about the impact of complex additional needs on a child’s development and family life.

Role Details

* Due to the vulnerable nature of the individual being supported, this role is exempt from the 2010 Equality Act on gender grounds.

** Name changed to protect identity.

Please apply with your CV and a covering letter/email, explaining what has drawn you to this particular role and how you believe your experience and/or qualities support your application.
