Job Description
We are looking for a Support Worker to join our Service based in Leeds (LS17) on a permanent and full time basis (37.5 hours a week). Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins, weekends and bank holidays. You will receive an enhanced flat rate payment of £61.20 for any sleep in shifts carried out. The payment for sleep ins is non-contractual.
We can be flexible with the number of hours offered and will consider applications from all interested candidates.
About our Service
We support people to achieve their goals and aspirations, some examples of what has been achieved; becoming a volunteer, attending an employment course, travel training, working with animals, going to the gym, baking & cooking, going swimming, gardening, going to the shop alone for the first time, achieving steps to independence.
Getting people involved in every aspect of their support is key to a happy and fulfilled life, so you will need to be always encouraging, positive and person-centred about promoting this, sometime something as simple as encouraging someone opening their own curtains can make them feel good about their day.
Some of the people we support have mobility vehicles, so being a river is definitely an asset. The house is near to local bus routes, so getting to and from work should not be a problem.
This year, people we support have been able to go on holiday; this has been down to the commitment and efforts of the fantastic team you may be joining.
What does a Support Worker do?
As a Support Worker you will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support that will help to ensure the people we support live a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and be a naturally caring and patient personality. Typical responsibilities may include:
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments and cooking delicious healthy meals.
- Excellent communication skills and Relationship building – supporting the people we support to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion - supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
- Personal care - helping people to get ready for the day. This may include prompting the people we support to take their medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
