Job Description

Specialist Doctor in Dermatology

University Hospital Monklands

We welcome applications from enthusiastic individuals keen to join our dedicated Dermatology team in NHS Lanarkshire.

There is a broad spectrum of pathology available within our catchment area, with diverse presentations including skin of colour, and paediatrics. Through innovative models of care, we provide a high quality service, utilising phototriage with dermoscopy to maintain urgent waits for skin cancer, with virtual clinics for benign lesions, and direct onward referral to Plastic Surgery for large skin tumours. High quality images are also used for triage of acute referrals with severe dermatoses.

The department has a strong history of research with excellent support available and is linked to the West of Scotland registrar training scheme. Liaison with Glasgow and Forth Valley allows for varied regional and local CME and governance programs.

NHS Lanarkshire is Scotland’s third largest health board and has 3 Acute Hospitals – University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Wishaw and University Hospital Monklands. Dermatology is based at University Hospital Monklands (UHM) with provision of core activity at all three acute hospital sites. Core dermatology services include general and lesion outpatient clinics, skin surgery, phototherapy, day treatment, pharmacist second line/biologics clinics, psoriasis and eczema specialist nurse clinics, skin cancer nurse clinics, and isotretinoin clinics. Contact allergy, photodynamic therapy, dermatopathology, inpatient admissions, and laser are based at UHM.

University Hospital Monklands (UHM) is a district general hospital allowing a varied practice and it also hosts all major ENT, head and neck, and urology cases for NHS Lanarkshire as well as general surgery, vascular access, OMFS and Orthodontics. It is the hub for area wide services which include Dermatology, Infectious diseases, Renal, and ENT specialties. All services are currently working to design and realise new models of care for the replacement University Hospital Monklands which will be Scotland’s flagship digital hospital, to be built by 2031.

Situated in West Central Scotland, University Hospital Monklands is readily accessed from a wide area, allowing commuting from city, suburban and rural locales.

Informal enquiries regarding this post will be welcomed by Dr Freida Shaffrali or Dr Helen Dilworth on 01698 752454.

NHS Lanarkshire are happy to consider requests for this publication to be in another accessible format i.e. large print, braille, etc. Please contact us via either of the undernoted methods clearly stating which format is required.
