Stage 1: Application
Your application will consist of two parts:
1. A Personal Details application form.
2. Behaviour statements (up to 250 words each). These include:
- Managing a Quality Service
- Communicating and Influencing
- Delivering at Pace
- Making Effective Decisions
Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be conducted using the lead behaviour: Managing a Quality Service.
Candidates who pass the initial sift will be progressed to a full sift.
The sift panel will use the information in your behaviour statements to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.

- Personal details that could be used to identify you including your name, contact details and address must be removed for your application to be considered.
- If your behaviour statements contain any personal details your application will be withdrawn.
Stage 2: Interview
If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the following Behaviours:
- Managing a Quality Service
- Communicating and Influencing
- Delivering at Pace
- Making Effective Decisions
Interviews will take place from late-May 2023. Interview dates to be confirmed.
Other information:
A reserve list may be held for a period of 6 months from which further appointments can be made.
Reserve list candidates will be posted in merit order by location.
You must meet the security requirements before you can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.
For meaningful checks to be carried out, you will need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time, to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. Whilst a lack of UK residency in itself is not necessarily a bar to a security clearance, and expectation of UK residency may range from 3 to 5 years. Failure to meet the residency requirements needed for the role may result in the withdrawal of provisional jobs offers.
Any move to DWP from another employer will mean you can no longer access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments. You may however be eligible for other government schemes, including Tax Free Childcare. Determine your eligibility at
Security Information
If successful and transferring from another Government Department a criminal record check may be carried out.
In order to process applications without delay, we will be sending a Criminal Record Check to Disclosure and Barring on your behalf. However, we recognise in exceptional circumstances some candidates will want to send their completed forms direct. Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD). This check will provide information about employees who have been dismissed for fraud or dishonesty offences. This check also applies to employees who resign or otherwise leave before being dismissed for fraud or dishonesty had their employment continued. Any applicant’s details held on the IFD will be refused employment.
A candidate is not eligible to apply for a role within the Civil Service if the application is made within a 5-year period following a dismissal for carrying out internal fraud against government.
