Job Description
About the Role
Staffordshire University is recruiting a Security Officer (Nights) to join their busy Campus Security team in Stoke.
The role works on a shift basis and we require a degree of flexibility as this role is part of a 24/7, 365-day service. The core shift hours for this role are between 8pm – 6am, 7 days a week. Rota will vary in shift length due to operational needs.
The team plays a pivotal role in the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors to the University, as well as providing 24-hour security services. Most importantly, we provide welfare support for students, working closely with wellbeing and other services across the university through our 24- hour provision. The role is fast paced and responsive, with no two days being the same. You will play a key role in developing and fostering relationships with everyone on campus, for us to maintain a safe and secure environment. In return we can offer you a generous benefits package including enhanced annual leave entitlement, a comprehensive training package and private pension.
Successful candidates will ideally have previous security experience, however the ability to provide an excellent student experience is paramount so applications from individuals with relevant experience outside of the security sector are welcomed. We require exceptional levels of customer service, the ability to be diplomatic in conflict and empathise with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. You must have the ability to work in sometimes challenging situations, remaining calm and acting effectively. You will be a positive and motivating individual, and a committed team player, but with the ability to work independently and on your own initiative. You must be comfortable with technology and computer literate as we are a digital university. As a team we go beyond the traditional security boundaries and as an individual you must be highly skilled and flexible to deal with this challenging and varied role. The ability to embrace change is a must. As a university we consider the right attitudes and behaviours are just as important as experience and skill.
Our department philosophy is to keep our customers at the heart of everything we do, and we expect our staff to uphold our values of “Diligent, Kind and Excellent” at all times, linking into the University’s overall vision, strategy and values.
