Brief job description:

Estio Training have an exciting new opportunity for a Software Developer Apprentice with Exe Squared, a computer support and services company based in Exeter.

Job Description:

Exe Squared Ltd is a software company that provides web based software development expertise to companies across the UK. Our client base includes larger organisations such as Birmingham Airport through to small tech startups.

We also have a growing level of expertise within IoT (Internet of Things). We have developed multiple standalone battery powered devices which take measurements or operate remote hardware whilst communicating via 4G connectivity. We also design and build our own enclosures utilising 3D printers.

It’s an amazing opportunity for growth and development if you’re looking for a long-term career in Software.

Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:

  • Liaising with customers to understand their requirements and projects.
  • Write code for increasingly complex software and web application using PHP, JavaScript, jQuery (and frameworks such as VUE), SQL, MySQL, Laravel, CMS (WordPress/Joomla) and CRM (vTiger and SuiteCRM). We also utilise C# and C++ for some IoT projects.
  • Version control using GIT.
  • Carry out testing in line with organizational requirements and create test plans, logs, and cases and record all findings, whether testing goes as expected or problems are identified.

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)

  • Understanding of coding.
  • Passionate about IT.
  • Computer hobbyist.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Communication skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Estio apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully qualified and industry experienced training team. Throughout the apprenticeship learners receive coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated team who are there to ensure they get the most from their work experience.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship gives you an accredited Level 4 Software Developer, with training in how to:

  • Create logical and maintainable codes for software development.
  • Apply security best practice to the software solution throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Apply appropriate recovery techniques to ensure the software solution being developed is not lost.
  • Implement accurate and effective change control.
  • Undertake unit testing of solutions, with appropriate levels of test code coverage, to identify and resolve issues.
  • Apply suitable ‘bug fixes’ based on severity and priority.
