We are currently recruiting for a Designer in our Web and Design Unit.
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced and highly motivated designers who are enthusiastic about all forms of design and want to make a positive impact in helping to protect people from death, injury and ill-health.
We are looking for a designer with excellent digital skills to lead on a wide range of design projects. Manage design standards, corporate identity/branding assets and our wider brand family. It includes working with our commercial publications partner and delivering designs for our statutory guidance materials.
This is a specialist graphic design role that requires specific expertise designing materials professionally for a variety of formats (e.g. social, web and mobile). With experience of working in at least one of either video and animation, illustration, photography, audio design or information design in Microsoft Office 365.
Roles require expert practitioners with deep design experience who will define and assure design best practice, making sure our content aligns to HSE’s strategy and objectives, while meeting the needs of our users.
This role is key in transitioning HSE’s website and to improve engagement with citizens, employers and workers.
We’re looking for people with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working in a demanding, high profile environment, with the ability to use a variety of different communication skills. You will need to be comfortable working independently across a range of communication, policy and digital disciplines.

Responsibilities

Work with the Head of Design to help develop and implement brand and design standards that meet our objectives.
You will prioritise workloads and collaborate with others in the design community and your counterparts across government.
Have broad industry and design profession experience and the ability to define and assure best practice, while influencing, leading and mentoring other designers.
Have strong leadership and influencing skills and the ability to cut through a variety of competing priorities. You will be experienced in building good working relationships in pressured environments and be an enthusiastic team-player with a proactive and collaborative attitude.

Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Collaborating with team of designers in our creative/design studio responsible for designing materials for (not exhaustive):

Creating a range of engaging materials, that help communicate health and safety guidance and law to a mass audience of users who come to our website.

Designs for internal and external conferences and events.

Handling statutory and technical documents that need design support.

Designing our range of statutory and corporate reports linked to business plan deliverables, eg Annual Report and Accounts, Business Plans.

Input into producing visual identities for campaigns and implementing in a range of collateral such as documents, social media images and videos/animations.

Managing a visual identity and working with defined branding parameters.
Work involves sketching, developing and delivering creatively strong, accessible formats and concepts executed to a high standard, making use of insight to deliver products that support delivery of HSE’s objectives.
Oversee all aspects of design work, including creation of accessible, user-centered designs working across divisions/teams to oversee creation and delivery of design projects, and specifically working with project and team leaders to support them in their role.
Quality assuring design work. Deliver evidence-based designs, using data, research and analytics to establish user needs and preferences, agreeing clear targets and evaluation criteria to demonstrate the impact of design improvements.
Establish and maintain relationships with other professional content and digital bodies and cross-government groups, to further objectives.
