Refuse Worker
(Middlefields, South Shields)
£21,968 pa plus allowance
You will cover a selection of duties for Waste Services including, but not limited to, working as part of a team to provide an efficient domestic, recycling and commercial collection service across the Borough.
You will be happy to work as part of a team and be prepared to work flexibly when necessary. You will be expected to undertake duties in accordance with the job description, which will include:
- Acting as an ambassador for the Council providing advice and guidance to members of the public, local businesses etc. regarding Council services.
- Working as part of a team to provide an efficient domestic, commercial/trade and recycling collection service, including issuing of public information across the Borough.
- Working at the Recycling Village, as and when required, acting as a meeter and greeter for users of the service and taking a pro-active role in waste identification and suitable disposal options.
- Providing general sweeping, litter picking, graffiti removal and needle recovery.
- Managing and controlling waste and recycling contamination.
- Carrying out light driving duties up to and including 7.5t covering all aspects of the service.
- Assisting in the set up and dismantling of any events held within the Borough.
- Reporting any incidents of anti-social behaviour or behaviour that may be considered offensive.
- Ensuring that all tools, equipment and materials issued are maintained to a high standard and reporting any defects.
- Completing all relevant paperwork associated with the post including accident reports, health and safety issues, timesheets etc. To report issues/problems e.g. assisted pull-outs, contamination, damaged bins, delays etc.
- Prioritising workload and being proactive in identifying and responding to unexpected situations as they arise.
- Ensuring compliance with generic and dynamic risk assessments.
It is essential that any applicants must be able to drive up to a 7.5t vehicle and be prepared to undertake their Driver CPC.
