Job Description

This post is funded by NHS Forth Valley and you will be paid during the programme.

NHS Forth Valley is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to undertake an innovative Operating Department Practitioner preparation programme, delivered in partnership with the University of West of Scotland.

Operating Department Practitioners are members of the multidisciplinary perioperative team involved in the overall planning and delivery of peri-operative care. Operating Department Practitioners are employed within surgical operating departments to provide Anaesthetic, Scrub and Recovery care.

The programme is of two years duration and is a blend of online educational theory and clinical based practice education. Throughout the programme you will gain a variety of experiences within the Peri-operative Department of Forth Valley Royal Hospital and be fully supported by clinical supervisors/ assessors.

Successful completion of the programme will lead to registration with the Health Care Professions Council.

It is essential that you are a self motivated, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills. You must be committed to independent study and personal development as well as being proficient in the use of digital technology, information systems and email.

To enter the programme you require:
Passes in the Scottish National Qualifications in 5 subjectsincluding two at H level: or passes in the GCSE/GCE in four subjects including one at A level: or SQA Scottish National Qualifications/Edexcel Foundation/ SVQ Level 3 or above: or SCQF Level 6.

To meet the HCPC (2018) requirements for accreditation, all candidates must be able to communicate in English to the standard equivalent to Level 7 of the International English Language Testing System, with no element below Level 6.5.

This post will also be considered as in training position under Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms & conditions. Annex 21 Trainees will receive 70% of Band 5 maximum for the first year then 75% for the second year.

University commences on September 2023 with practice placements starting September 2023.
