We’re seeking a Special Credit Manager to join our Business Banking Special Credit Unit. Business Banking Special Credit Unit ensures the risks being taken in support of any turnaround plan are appropriate to the Bank’s risk appetite but fairly. Whilst the primary objective of is to maintain long term relationships with customers, it is recognised that this will not always be possible and where business viability cannot be established or restored, will explore options with the customer that provide a consensual route to full repayment.

Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

In this role, you will:

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of Small-Medium Enterprises who are experiencing financial distress (CiFDs) with a cash risk >£500,000 in a “face to face” relationship environment.
  • Rehabilitate customers to Business Banking by using the “5Cs Principles” to successfully deliver consensually agreed strategies.
  • Effectively manage resources to increase the quality and time for client meetings/visit opportunities.
  • Deepen understanding of clients through pro-active credit risk assessments and customer due diligence reviews.
  • Confidently manage financial crime and fraud risk throughout the client lifecycle by identifying, assessing, accepting, monitoring, escalating and mitigating risk.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable operational risk standards and policies, reporting any breaches.
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrable experience working with Business Banking customers.
  • An overall understanding of the credit lifecycle with an awareness of HSBC credit risk appetite.
  • A strong customer focus and able interpret complex situations and establish outcomes that suit both customer and the bank.
  • Flexible and able to travel to visit customers as and when required.

The base location for this role: Manchester / Liverpool / Preston / North-West / Hybrid with up to 2 days in the office a week.
